Life’s a struggle. It’s not easy to be happy or successful in this world. Well, we didn’t ask to play this game, but we had better play to win.
Life Isn’t Easy
Life is tough. It likes to push you around and kick you when you’re down. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, life changes the rules and trips you up. Nor is it fair. Just surviving can be hard enough for many people, yet for others it seems easy. Some people seem to live a charmed existence, whilst for others our path is littered with broken glass and tripwire. None of us asked to be in this game, yet we’re all playing it. If surviving is tough, trying to be successful can be even tougher.
There is a Way
We all know how to succeed, but the trouble is that it’s not easy. That’s why Lynne and I created the Inspiration Zone. There are ways to achieve success, but we usually need some guidance and help along the way. We’re gathering all the best guidance we can and putting it all here so we can all succeed together. In my opinion, though there is one vital skill that we must all have in our success toolbox.
“You Gotta Be Willing to Take the Hits”
This is a topic I discuss a lot and it usually doesn’t take me long to get to one of the greatest lessons of all and it comes to us, surprisingly perhaps, from Hollywood. If, like me you had previously dismissed the series of “Rocky” films starring Sylvester Stallone as being just a collection of pulp fictions about boxing, you would be missing a fundamental success lesson. Instead, they are an exploration of personal development. In the last of them, the lead character gives his son one of the most powerful lessons in the indomitable strength of human determination and an essential factor in the pursuit of success. Here it is:
“Let me tell you something you already know: the world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life, but it ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.
“Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth, but you gotta be willing to take the hits and not pointing fingers, saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody.”
Keep Moving Forward
Persistent struggle against the odds will always lead to success in the end. There is only one universal secret to success and this is it. You have to keep going. No matter how tired you are, no matter how bad you feel, no matter how little progress you make. Whether it’s an inch, a yard or a mile, keep pushing forward toward your goals. Never give in, never stop; your success is just beyond your fingertips. Keep going.
I’d love to know how you motivate yourself to keep going forward. How do you push past negativity and exhaustion? In the meantime, I urge you to get a copy of the Rocky films and look for the life lessons they’re packed with.
