Do You FEED Your Success Strategy?
Everyone has a different definition for what they consider success is. Whatever your definition, you need a set of actions to make success happen.
FEED Success in Your Life
Whether it’s a better social life, a happier relationship with a loved one, or financial independence, you deserve to be successful. That’s why I’m sharing my FEED model with you here on Inspiration Zone. It’s a model for developing success strategies throughout your life that really work.
Focus – Define Your Goals
Without clear goals you are on an endless journey. I like travelling, but it’s much more interesting when I know my destination.
Excellence – Improve Yourself and Your Skills
The surest way to guarantee future redundancy is to neglect your own development. The only solution is to engage in an ongoing programme of self development. Malcolm Gladwell points out in Outliers that it takes over 10,000 hours of practise to achieve mastery. The Samurai warriors of ancient Japan were said to have practised each cut 10,000 times in order to reach a point of mastery. Seth Godin points out in Linchpin that the way to differentiate yourself in the 21st Century is by standing for and insisting on excellence from yourself.
Execution – Take Action
Let’s assume you’ve set clear goals and are working in improving your skills in pursuit of excellence. The next step then is to take action. A plan is only so good as the steps you take to execute it. For some, this is often the hardest step. The reason why many people feel unable to take action is usually down to a fear of failure. The best way to counter this is to develop an attitude of willingness to fail. It’s possible to even get to the point where you look forward to failing. Why would you want to fail? Almost all successes are preceded by a series of failures (or stepping stones as I prefer to call them). Get through the stepping stones; learn from each so that you evolve toward a successful approach. How do you overcome your fear of failure? The best way I know how is by exposure. Put yourself in front of your fear and overcome it repeatedly. Delivery – Complete to Succeed
“If you don’t ship, you actually haven’t started anything at all. At some point, your work has to intersect with the market” Seth Godin
Some people find it easy to begin, but the job never ends. They get stressed at the mere thought of a deadline. They always find another thing that needs doing before declaring the work done. This is a relatively common but simple problem. If you never complete, you never succeed. Why do we do this? The cause is the same as those who fear to begin: fear of failure. And the cure is the same. Sometimes good enough is good enough. Set clear guidelines so you can measure quality, make sure that your product or service or task meets those standards, and then declare it done. Do this often. Repeat it until it becomes a habit. Practice, practice, practice.
The Next Step
Now it’s time to FEED your success. Use this model to develop your strategy for happiness and success. Then decide what you would like to be more successful at next.
